I know, I know. You're just dying to know the Secret Formula. Yes?
Well I can't tell you that outright.
You have to dig down deep and search it out on your own like you’re digging for hungry treasure in Cookie Crumb Cave. You will either discover it for yourself (unless you already have) or keep trying to force someone else's formula to work for you.
But it's their secret formula. Not yours. It was meant for them. Not you. Their own way was developed through a process of trial and error, progress and setbacks, and maybe even some tears. The Weight Loss Secret Formula is NOT the same for everyone. It's tailor made for each person. What works for Cardio Carla, Kickboxing Kate, Pilates Patrice, and Running Roger may not work for you.
But why? Here are some examples:
Someone once insisted I do my strength training BEFORE my cardio, just like a lot of people do. But nope. I won't do it. That's not what works for me. I listened to my body and took note of how it responded. This is why cardio always come first.
A few years back I would pressure myself into running because so many people do it. I figured I should to. But running made me miserable. I HATED it! I ran real grumpy with zero passion, and it showed. I barely got any results and my body did not respond to it safely - my knees and ankles hurt bad.
Then one day I had an epiphany. I do not have to exercise the same way everyone else does. I want to enjoy my workouts, and if that means not running or not doing yoga, then so be it.
Ironically, I run now and I love it. My running passion grew over time. Now I run because I want to, not because I feel pressured to fit into the mainstream. The secret to happy weight loss is to engage in the fitness activities that you love, or at least like and can get used to.
So what about yoga? Yoga this, yoga that. I’ve tried it several times and I just can’t get into it. So instead, I make up my own strength-stretchy sequences in a temporarily child-free room set to calming music. It's not really yoga. It's my own thing and I love it.
Then you have the healthy eating aspect. I don't like green smoothies. I used to force 'em down while suffering with a partial gag reflex, because I thought I was suppose to love a Green Monster like a lot of people I know. But ewww. I’ll take my green in a salad instead.
Don't tackle your weight loss journey set to someone else's rules. You don't have to work out six days a week because they do. You don't have to eat tofu and hummus because they do. Don't pressure yourself to fit into the standard mold. Find your own lane and enjoy it. As time goes on you may find that your fitness preferences and food tastes morph into what others are doing, and that's fine. Just don't force it.
Forced fitness is not fun.
So there you have it. That's the Weight loss Secret Formula.
