Mixing It Up A Bit

I decided I am going to try and break my meals into mini meals and eat more frequently. My thoughts are I seriously need to work on revving my metabolism back up because something has to give here. I cannot keep going back and forth with losing the same 10 pounds and gaining and losing anymore. If I were at goal I would be doing awesome at maintenance. But I am not so here was yesterdays…any input is greatly appreciated and encouraged. Breakfast or in reality mini meal 1 was 2 bananas and coffee with almond milk and stevia in it.
My second meal was a bowl of strawberries and cream oats and a large glass of water.
Then for my meal 3 I made a PB and strawberry sandwich on whole wheat bread and again another large glass of water.
For meal 4 I made a ham sandwich with a slice of cheese and mustard on an Arnold thin round and sided it with carrot sticks and cucumber rounds. I am thinking I am going to be looking for  smaller plates. Meal 5 was a peach…mmm love peaches…and serving of almonds.

Meal 6…my final meal…was a cup and a half of broccoli, half an ear of corn 2 wedges of watermelon and 3 oz grilled chicken.
Water: 80 oz.
Fruits/Veggies: 10
Steps: 13458
Exercise: 90 min walk, 50 wall push-ups, 100 sit-ups
Daily Calorie Burn: 3552
So definitely this is a work on progress and I know I want to make this a lifestyle change, so it has to be workable for me.
Speaking of lifestyle changes I am in the process of making more and with my immediate goal….like next Monday…I need your help to attain it. 1. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I am so excited for you -- good luck this week. :=)

Next, it's VERY smart to eat mini-meals, but I'd be careful about what you're eating at each meal. 1/2 of a banana (which is the starchiest/fattiest fruit) is a serving size for one adult. I think for nut butters, the serving size is 1 TB. And, I would add more salads/greens/veggies through out the day; a salad serving should be about 2 cups and any of your other veggies should be around 1 cup.

;) Just passing along info from Dr. Renna . . .she'll be giving you the same info in a week or two if you WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Thank you Rachel!

Hmm ok, 1/2 banana...not 2 and then I will add something else with it, because 1/2 banana would NOT keep me for 30 min. let alone 2-3 hours!! LOL

    More salads...gotcha

Yep PB was natural and only 1T.Good I got that one.

  3. Wow, you're awesome. 100 sit-ups? Impressive! Also impressed with all the fruit/veggies and water consumption...all the things I'm working on, but haven't done a good job of as of late (as in since October). Looking forward to reading your posts and getting motivated myself! Good luck with Mamavation Mom - I'll check it out and vote!

  4. Wow, your workouts are awesome. Rachel said what I was gonna say about the bananas ~ try a different fruit, something water based like grapes. Or adding more salad/veggie (raw cauliflower and broccoli are delish). Good luck with the Mamavation campaign. You know you have my support.

  5. Count me in for a week of voting. I'm going there right now and will vote each day for you.

As an ex-personal trainer and someone who knows a little something about diet and exercise....I can tell that you are totally going to reach any goal you set for yourself. You've got that secret x factor....complete belief and full motivation. Nicely done.

  6. This helped me...2 hrs before a workout eat a slow carb like oatmeal or brown rice and a clean protein like egg whites, you want something that will stick with you for energy so you are not pulling from muscle. 35min before exercise suck an orange or eat an apple or bananna for quick energy. A cup of coffee is always a good jolt before a workout, (I stick to one cup per day). Within 15-60min after your workout you need a quick carb and protein to replenish glycogen to your muscles. No fat here, it slows digestion and you want to quickly and efficiently get glycogen back to your muscles. Otherwise, you basically wasted a workout and will ultimately burn muscle not fat. Try some low fat yogurt, fruit (pineapple), and a scoop of protein powder for a great smoothie. Don't miss that 15-60min window to replenish! Plan on lunch within 2hrs. I start getting lots of greens, nuts, veggies, cheese at this point. Afternoon snack is usually a whole grain wrap, beans, salsa etc or sandwich piled with veggies on my homemade whole grain bread...then a well balanced dinner. Nice protein, veggies, whole grain bread or brown rice. I never skip dessert (portion control). I rotate natural vegetarian dishes, vegan dishes, and full on meat dishes throughout the week. I think the small frequent meals are a great idea and you are definitely on right track. I bake my own breads with whole grain flours and fiber, make my own soups with pureed beans to add creaminess. I buy very little from the market other than fruits, veggies, beans, pasta, and baking items. It's important to have a cheat meal within reason, some junk is good once in awhile. I am eating closer to the earth these days and the flavors and textures are amazing! Check out http://sweetveg-e.blogspot.com/ for some ideas. The biggest mistake is to not get enough nutrient dense calories in your day. You risk muscle loss which makes losing fat that much more difficult. You need to eat when your feet hit the floor to start that metabolism! Keep up the great work. Wish you the best!
