Hi all! I'm Sahar from FatFighterTV, and I am so honored that Trish asked me to share my story of what inspired me to start my website.
After years of covering the obesity epidemic as a TV News Health Reporter, I wanted to do something to help people learn about the scope of the problem and inspire them to make small healthy changes in their lives. I had interviewed many families whose children had type 2 diabetes because of their weight and it really bothered me that these kids had a disease that was usually only seen in adults. I wanted to somehow bring attention to that. That's basically how FatFighterTV came to be.
Besides what I experienced as a reporter, I also saw in my own family how extra weight can affect our health. My father has high blood pressure and had a heart attack a few years ago; my mother died of heart disease. I know that I can't control my genes, but I CAN control how I live, and I want to do whatever I can to be healthy - to eat whole foods as much as possible and to exercise. Now, I do have a thing for chocolate - dark chocolate, these days - and I will never give it up! So that just means I gotta exercise a little more some days, right? ;)
I have always been active, but that doesn't mean maintaining a healthy weight has always been easy. Life throws us all curve balls from time to time, and that can really throw us off the healthy living course. One of those curve balls for me has been endometriosis. I have lived with it for as long as I can remember. I have had five surgeries to treat it, and after each one, it seems harder to get back to exercising at my usual level. I always do, but it seems to take longer to get there each time.
We all have our battles. And we’re all a little different as far as what we need to do to shed those pounds or maintain a healthy weight. But I think one thing is true for everyone - you've got to find healthy food and exercise that you like or it just won't work. I truly believe my website's tag line: Fitness. Food. Fun. Because enjoying the journey is half the battle.
