Gruve Vs. BodyBugg

I have had a BodyBugg for the past year now and have used it on and off.
To begin I will just give the facts…from the companies.
The BodyBugg

  • Uses specialized sensors to monitor calories burned with over 90% accuracy.
  • See actual calorie consumed / calorie expend
  • Manages calorie consumption via web-based program that is free for 6 months($79/year after).
  • Tracks steps with a built-in pedometer.
  • Comes with 2 - 30 minute coaching sessions to help you get the most from the unit.
  • PC and Mac compatible.
  • Uses a rechargeable battery.
  • Alarm capabilities to remind you to drink water, work out, get to bed etc.
  • Online program totally customizable to suit your needs.(extra $$)
  • Wrist watch display available for real time viewing of calories burned.
  • Tracks amount of fitness time.
Cost $199 (without digital wrist display or online subscription)
The Gruve

  • Personalized to your specific calorie burn rate (done through a week review)
  • Real time feedback through colored lights (by the push of a “button”)
  • Sendentary behavior vibration reminds you to move (more like trains you to move)
  • Easily syncs with PCs running Windows XP and Vista
  • The Gruve uses an omnidirectional accelerometer to measure activity intensity and duration. Synchronizing your Gruve device with our Gruve web site gives you the ability to view your own daily calorie burn and track your weight loss progress. (from site)
  • Cost $179.95 What are my thoughts on these 2 tools?
First they both have their strong points as well as areas that..in my humble opinion…could do better or add a feature, but work if you work with them.

  • The BodyBugg has the benefit of counting your steps as well as calories burned but the Gruve will remind you to get up move and it too gives you a calorie burn along with a visual of a colored light letting you know were you are in your burn goal.
Both are effective tools, so really what it comes down to is what are YOU looking for? Do you need a reminder to get up and move or do you want a specific diet regimen that you can set up with the BodyBugg online aspect.
For me because I follow a no counting method diet…intuitive eating…the Gruve is a better fit for me, but if you count calories and want to know what your daily calorie deficit is…the BodyBugg will better suit your needs.

*BodyBugg I bought and own, the Gruve was provided free of charge to review and compare to the BodyBugg, I am not being compensated for this review and all opinions expressed are my own and in no way influenced by receiving the product free.
