Review: The Biggest Loser 6 Weeks to a Healthier You
I was really excited about reading this book*, especially since I was starting 2 6 week challenges that have to do with my exercise. I always have wished I had the circumstances I could even apply to be a contestant on the Biggest Loser. To learn the inside secrets of their success. Where I still think they are holding a little of the complete pie this book really breaks it down to manageable chunks to make changes. Changes to as the title says…a healthier YOU.
As much as I do not like the drama found on the show, I love seeing the transformation of the contestants and this book helps you to get to know them on a bit more of a personal level. To look at the photos in this book and to where they are now is truly nothing short of amazing. True following the guidelines in this book I will not have the same drastic changes as quick, though through persistence those same results assuredly will be brought about.
For those of you who read my blog regularly you know I returned to Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago via my husbands strong advice. Where I am completely owning that decision and the plan, this fits well in with what I am doing. Page 23 talks about a hunger scale and learning to listen to your body cues. That is exactly the approach I am taking with Weight Watchers, following their Simply Filling Technique and not counting points for the items on that list.
Page 25 encourages us to write it all down. I have journaled my food…forever…and will continue to do so, regardless if I am counting points, calories or just what I am eating because this truly does help when you come up against a challenge with a plateau or weight gain.
Page 32 continues with different healthy options for grains, protein, healthy fats and vegetables. When you arrive on page 37 you learn about the top 10 super foods for optimum health.
You learn how to reclaim your life starting with page 41 and you start by learning a bit about Dr H. and what he does with the contestants. When you arrive on page 46 you take a Health Score Quiz that will help you to determine your risk category helping you determine what you should do next. My favorite contestant of all time happens to be Ali Vincent and she is pictured on page 53.
Week 1 begins with helping you to prevent and reverse diabetes.
Week 2 helps us to be heart smart
Week 3 we can cut our cancer risk
Week 4 we focus on blood pressure
Week 5 we learn about the mind body connection
Week 6 focuses on exercise
Each week not only addresses the specific topic helping us make changes in that particular area but also helps us with a sample menu for the week and some very good recipes we can try as well. We also are given an exercise routine to focus on each week with different intensity levels to customize where we might be…always able to push ourselves that much more…just as Jillian would if we were at the ranch!
You can also find peppered throughout trainer tips from Bob & Jillian as well as photos and updates on some of the past favorite…and not so favorite…contestants.
Over all I really loved reading it and ma enjoying trying the recipes and the exercise routines that I am adding…hmm…I am exercising 3 times per day…I hope to see a major change what is now 5 weeks from now!
